 CHS Library has over 10,000 reference and print resources, videos, CDs, and forty magazine subscriptions.  Nineteen computers are networked to the Internet and are available for student research.  CISD  provides students with access to high-quality databases that greatly enhance online learning.  They include magazine/newspaper databases, online encyclopedias, and reference databases for specific topics, such as health, literature, biography, and careers.  A copier and printers are available for a small fee.

Meet the Librarian

Mrs, Donna Cook is a certified teacher with a Masters of Arts in English and education from Stephen F. Austin State University, a degree in Library Information Services from Sam Houston State University, and a supervisory certification. She was a member of the Tayshas committee for the Texas Library Association for three years and chose the best new books for Texas teenagers. She created the activities for the 2x2 reading list for Texas primary students that are now used across Texas and have become part of the 2x2 committee responsibilities. She is also the librarian for her church, and she teaches librarians as the opportunity arises at conferences and workshops. Mrs. Cook began working at Central in 1999 where she is also the library director for all CISD libraries and the UIL Academics Director. in 2009-10, Mrs. Cook was honored to be on the Printz Committee for the American Library Association, and she helped choose Jellico Road by Melina Marchetta for the 2009 Printz Award. Mrs. Cook has two grown sons and lives in Nacogdoches with her husband, a retired school administrator.

Policies

Check-out:  Students may check out as many items as they need.  The check-out periods are three weeks for print materials, one week for videos and CDs, and one day for reference materials and magazines. 

Fees: Items that are kept for extended periods are charged a fee of $1.00 after they have been out for twenty or more school days.  Students with lost or damaged items  will be charged the replacement cost of the item, and they will be expected to pay within the semester.

Printing: Students may print from the computers and use the copy machine for one free page per day.  Additional pages will be charged at the rate of .05 cents.

Respect the library materials (so we'll have more to use)

Everything has a correct place (so we'll all be able to find what we need)

Always share (so we'll return things when they are due and we'll put things on hold when we have to wait)

Don't disturb those studying in the library (so we'll all have a special place to read and study)
